Santa Cruz, CA is a beach resort community approximately 70 miles south of San Francisco. Home to both the University of California at Santa Cruz and the popular Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk, the area attracts quite a lot of tourist traffic. For those seeking a more serene beach experience, 12/13/13's weekly BackPacker winner, Candice Montgomery, recommends Panther Beach where she captured her winning image.
"This is a 3 exposure HDR image of the arch that separates Panther Beach from Hole in the Wall Beach, a nice, somewhat secluded beach near Davenport, CA, not too far from Santa Cruz. This spot can be easy to miss if you're not sure where it is, but it's one of the most beautiful beaches near Davenport, and it's famous for this stunning sea arch. There's an interesting scramble to get down to the beach that can seem a bit daunting, especially when carrying your camera gear, but it's completely worth it." - Candice
Candice shot the arch with a Canon 40D and Canon EF-S17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS lens.
